Your Best Educational Post Reaches Fewer People Than Your Lightest One. That's Not a Failure

Purely educational content, full of ready-made answers and step-by-step instructions, tends to reach far fewer people than content that shows a desirable outcome in a lighter, more aspirational way. That doesn’t make educational content useless. It means that content works best when it comes after the lighter layer, aimed at people the lighter content already drew in, rather than competing with it for the same broad reach.

Showing a desirable result in a light way activates a broader kind of curiosity, since it asks nothing of the viewer beyond watching. Technical content filters people out from the first second, since anyone not actively looking to learn that particular thing at that particular moment scrolls past it. Accepting that gap in reach as expected, rather than a sign the educational content is somehow worse, is what makes it possible to use the light layer deliberately as the entry door to a bigger audience.

Producing denser, educational content aimed specifically at the audience the light layer already attracted, rather than trying to win general reach with it, is what turns that entry door into something more than a dead end. Tracking whether the audience pulled in by light content actually moves on to consume the educational layer, rather than just assuming it, confirms whether the two are working together as intended. Reviewing the balance between the two periodically, based on what that tracking shows, keeps the funnel tuned as the audience and the content both evolve.

Flow Border supports brands building content that draws people in and then actually teaches them something.
