One Extra Message After the Sale Cuts Wrong-Size Returns to a Fraction
A large share of exchanges and returns on size-dependent products has nothing to do with the product itself. It happens because a customer sees a photo, likes it, and buys the size they usually wear in something else entirely, without registering that this particular item needs a different fit. The size chart was right there on the page. It just wasn’t what the customer was focused on at the moment of deciding to buy.
A single automatic message, sent minutes after the order confirmation, asking the customer to confirm specific data relevant to that product, weight, height, body type, whether it’s for an adult or a child, works better than any warning on the product page ever could, because by then the customer is already emotionally invested in the purchase and pays closer attention to what’s being asked. The order only moves to production once that confirmation comes back.
The difference in outcome is substantial: without this step, a meaningful share of every hundred orders can come back for the wrong size; with active confirmation in place, that number drops to a handful. Every one of those prevented exchanges also means a shipment, a round of packaging, and support time that never had to happen. Setting this up means building the message into a post-purchase flow, WhatsApp or email, defining exactly which data actually matters for the product being sold, and training support to hold the order until the customer responds.
It’s a small, inexpensive change that solves a recurring operational cost, and preventing the wrong size from ever shipping is worth far more than resolving the complaint after it’s already arrived at the wrong address in the wrong fit.
Flow Border helps stores build exactly this kind of pre-shipment confirmation into their fulfillment flow.
